“A Phoenix First Must Burn,” edited by Patrice Caldwell

A beautiful collection of short stories. I loved the range! And they felt joyful. My favorites were “Tender-Headed,” “The Curse of Love,” and “All The Time in the World.”

The most interesting part for me was how instead of all the protagonists being white men in my head (until otherwise specified), I knew from the beginning they were female POC. It really highlighted how I imagine default characters.
