“Ask Again, Yes,” by Mary Beth Keane

Lovely literary fiction. I was initially wary of this book since many of the main characters in are police officers — and, honestly, I'm tired. But the conflict was unique, and the story was well-structured, and (the book spanned about 40 years) it was interesting to see how views on mental illness and addiction evolved.

What stuck with me most was how much the characters hurt each other — and, yet, how true their love felt. A study in forgiveness. I would recommend it.
