His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik

I loved Novik's novel Spinning Silver so much I had to pick up one of her other books — and while this one was sweet, I liked it a little less. It was less nuanced.

The back describes it as “Pride and Prejudice with dragons,” and that sums it up perfectly. It's soothing, and it reminded me of a bedtime story. I quite enjoyed the high manners.

I haven't decided if I'll read the next one, but one of the things I liked about Spinning Silver was how well everything tied together — and His Majesty's Dragon was clearly just a beginning. The series hasn't had time to shine yet.
