Tuff by Paul Beatty

I read this because I heard it was funny and satirical — but the jokes didn't land for me, and the plot didn't move fast enough. The main character looks in a mirror on the first page to describe himself, which I found a bit cliche…. And we only hit the “promise of the premise” (Tuffy running for public office) about halfway though. I ended up putting it down.
